Gingerbread Man Recipe

Gingerbread Man Recipe
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
2 teaspoons ground ginger 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1 egg, beaten 1/4 cup golden syrup or honey
Currants or raisins, optional 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda
PREHEAT OVEN TO 375 DEGREES.
1. Put butter, sugar, and syrup in a saucepan and stir them together over low heat until they have melted.
2. Sift flour, ground ginger, and baking soda into a large mixing bowl.
3. Add syrup mixture and beaten egg.
4. Mix together and knead dough into a ball.
5. Chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
6. Sprinkle some flour on a smooth surface and roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thick.
7. Use cookie cutters or a knife to cut out gingerbread men and other shapes. Place the cookies on a greased baking sheet. Roll out excess dough again and cut out more cookies.
8. Make holes with a toothpick in the top of any cookies you want to hang up. Press currants or raisins into cookies for eyes and buttons if desired.
9. Bake cookies for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer to wire rack to cool.
Note: Use Egg Yolk Paint to color cookies before baking, or glaze them after baking with tubes of Cake Mate Decorating icing.

1 package gingerbread mix 1/4 cup lukewarm water
1. Bake according to directions on box.
