1. Rinse berries and dry on paper towels. (Chocolate will not stick to wet berries). Set aside.
2. Place semi-sweet chocolate plus 1 tablespoon shortening in saucepan. Melt or place in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave and heat on High for 45 seconds. Remove and stir. Return to microwave and cook an additional 45 seconds. Remove and stir until all candy is melted and smooth. Keep stirring, it will melt and smooth out.
3. Hold berries by stem and dip into chocolate. Place on wax paper.
4. For making contrasting threads of chocolate, add melted white chocolate to a disposable decorator bag. Cut off the very tip of the bag (about 1Z16 of an inch). Holding the bag up about 8 - 10 inches above the dipped berries, zigzag over the berries as the fine threads of chocolate fall on the dipped berries.
Note: Use a zip-lock bag instead of a decorating bag. Just clip off the very tip of one side of the bag (1/16 of an inch).
