Vanilla Custard Recipe - Ice Cream Dessert

Vanilla Custard Recipe

2 eggs, beaten
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
2 cups whipping cream
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
Color sprinkles, optional

1. In a large saucepan, combine the eggs, milk, sugar, and salt.

2. Cook and stir over medium-low heat until mixture reaches 160 degrees and is thick enough to coat a metal spoon.

3. Cool.

4. Stir in cream and vanilla.

5. Fill cylinder of ice cream freezer two-thirds full; freeze according to manufacturer's directions.

6. Refrigerate remaining mixture until ready to freeze.

7. Allow to ripen in ice cream freezer or firm up in refrigerator freezer for 2 to 4 hours before serving.

8. Garnish with colored sprinkles if desired.

Yields 1 1/2 quarts.
