So, what exactly is Mardi Gras? Mardi Gras officially begins on the 12th day after Christmas and ends the day before Lent or "Fat Tuesday" as it is known.

January 6th, the Epiphany (or literally, "little Christmas") has been observed as the day the Wise Men found the Baby Jesus.

King Cakes were first started to celebrate "Kings Day", with King Cakes decorated in the colors green, yellow, and purple to represent the three gifts of the Wise Men for the Baby Jesus.

King Cakes are very popular in New Orleans and south Louisiana.

All of the recipes on this website are from a cookbook that I wrote called Makin' Memories - Recipes and Crafts for the Whole Family - this cookbook, which I hope you and your child will use together, is packed with 369 recipes and crafts.

As a life-long resident of Louisiana, I have also co-authored a Cajun and Louisiana Cookbook, entitled Froggy Bottom - Louisiana Cuisine from the Hills to the Bayous . This cookbook contains over 400 of my favorite Cajun and Louisiana recipes; and, has sold over 30,000 copies.

Both Makin' Memories and Froggy Bottom make great gifts.

Enjoy your childhood memories all over again - and make new memories for your children with these Mardi Gras recipes and countless more recipes and crafts. This heartwarming book inspires you to unleash the incredible creativity and imagination that children bring into all of our lives.

Faye Crump Brydels, author of the popular cookbook, Froggy Bottom Louisiana Cuisine, shares recipes (over 300 more than the Mardi Gras recipes shown on this page), activities and numerous helpful tips that turn everyday chores into fun activities for kids and adults alike.
